PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Greetings,
We are less than two weeks from the Super Bowl here in Indianapolis. Hopefully everyone will get to visit the NFL experience next week as it could be a number of years before Indianapolis gets to host another Super Bowl. What an exciting time for the city! Now down to business.
The January 10th meeting was a tour of Sun King Brewery with dinner at the Rathskeller and a discussion on refrigerants. We had an excellent turnout! Thank you to the Sun King Brewery for the tour and beer tasting. Hopefully everyone was able to sample the different beers and even take some home.
I would like to thank Mike Thompson of Trane, for the informative and interesting discussion on the history and future of refrigerants, along with discussion on global warming, ozone depletion, energy efficiency, Montreal and Kyoto Protocol. It was an excellent presentation and should provoke some deeper thoughts when discussing refrigerants. Mike’s presentation is on the local ASHRAE website for all to view. Thanks Mike.
We had a successful bus trip from Indianapolis to the ASHRAE Expo in Chicago on January 24th. I would like to thank Hydronic & Steam Equipment (Bell & Gossett (a Xylem Company), Mestek (HydroTherm/Smith/Vulcan/AirTherm/RBI/Sterling), Cemline, Dow, Heatcraft, and Rehau) for sponsoring the bus and dinner.
This February, we will have two meetings. The first meeting will be a lunch at the Marten House on Wednesday, February 15th. Our Society President, Ron Jarnagin, will be here to discuss his message “Sustaining ASHRAE Through Leadership”. ASHRAE is creating a group called YEA (Young Engineers in ASHRAE). YEA is for all individuals under 35 years of age and younger. Ryan Scheidies of Johnson Controls has stepped up to fill the chair of YEA for our local chapter. Thank you Ryan! Please visit www.indyashrae.org for more details in the near future on YEA.
The second meeting will be Tuesday, February 21st, at Ball State in Muncie. We will be touring the newly completed Phase One Geo-Thermal project. This meeting will also be a joint meeting with the Fort Wayne ASHRAE chapter and USGBC. This evening meeting will include dinner. Jim Lowe, Ball State, and his staff will be conducting the discussion and tour.
Please read the newsletter for additional information and visit the website www.indyashrae.org.
As a reminder, all meeting attendees will receive PDH’s for Indiana’s required continuing education credits for professional engineers. July 2012 renewal will require 30 PDH’s to renew your license.
Finally, we are looking for sponsors for the monthly meetings (February meetings are open for sponsorship as well as the March, April and May meetings). Your company will be allowed a write up in the monthly newsletter and a display that can be setup at the meeting.
Please support your local chapter, and if you have any questions or comments please give me a call or e-mail at jkibort@hydstm.com, or visit our website at www.indyashrae.org.
Sincerely,
Jack J. Kibort
