Includes dinner and program.  Cash Bar is available.Meeting Program: One of the popular methods to be used in obtaining LEED points is through the use displacement ventilation and under-floor systems. The GSA has recommended that under-floor air distribution be considered for all new projects. To meet the requirements for LEED points, it may not be enough to only claim that the requirements have been met, but an ASHRAE procedure may need to be followed. This presentation will examine under-floor air and displacement ventilation, how they work, and how they can be used as a strategy to get LEED points with some practical guidelines on what is required and how to go about documenting the results. Our speaker will be Thomas J Kelly, Senior Product Manager, Engineering Training, Carrier Corporation. Tom has been with Carrier Corporation for 30 years serving a wide range of positions in sales, product design, application, service engineering, and product management.  He has also been involved in the development of energy analysis programs. For the last 2 years Tom has been in the Carrier Training Department teaching engineering design.  He has also been responsible for developing an approach to LEED™ and sustainable design. Prior to that he was product manager for commercial indoor air quality products and indoor packaged products. He has been responsible for developing the strategy and marketing of commercial IAQ products, including filtration devices, energy recovery products, and indoor package units.  He has been a representative on the ARI lesion committee to ASHRAE standard 62, is a member of ASHRAE committees on air-to-air heat exchangers and gas filtration, and has published several articles on the application of IAQ products.

Thomas Kelly is a mechanical engineer with a degree from the New York State Maritime College.

Tech Session:

Under-floor air systems will be discussed as to how the design promotes stagnation zones, which are used to improve IAQ. One of the issues with stagnation zones is how to calculate loads when load-estimating software normally assumes perfect mixing.  An approach to this problem will be discussed.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Welcome to 2005!!!!!  This is a great time for us to reflect on CIC's success the first half of the year and assess our direction through the remainder of 2005.  Please remember our theme this year is:  ASHRAE, TECHNOLOGY and YOUR BUSINESS.  How did we do?  I am excited to report that our speakers this year, in my opinion, were the most technical and impartial to corporate representation that I have seen in any previous years.  Thanks so much for the excellent work done by our program coordinators in selecting the speakers and fine tuning the subject.  Thanks to Dick McClure for all his help this year in facilitating many technical programs, particularly last month.  Clay Runshe gave a very straightforward technical session to kick off our January meeting.  Clay is very knowledgeable in our industry and his presentation on MERV ratings takes the mystery out of a complicated subject.  Thanks Clay!  Barney Burroughs visited us all the way from Atlanta.  As a consultant to ASHRAE, Barney gave an excellent, technically based presentation on the subject of filtration.  For those of you who missed it, please contact me for the hand outs. You really don't want to be without this information.  Finally, to Dick Yoho who was presented a certificate, welcome to ASHRAE Life-Membership.  We are so very fortunate to have a membership with a depth of talent, conviction and dedication, making CIC one of the best chapters in the country!  Indiana’s IEC Update:  We had a very successful meeting January 19th, with close to 40 attendees.  The technical knowledge gained at this presentation will put those attendees ahead of their competition in the consulting community.  If you would like to understand the IEC adoption process and/or serve on a committee to review or recommend changes to Indiana's Energy Code, please e-mail me at Steve.ehrman@york.com   Thanks to Kent Koch for facilitating this meeting!Regards - Steve Ehrman, President - Central Indiana Chapter ASHRAEAn Announcement from our Resource Promotion committee:The Resource Promotion committee would like to thank the members that participated in the 50/50 Raffle held at the January membership meeting. Steve Rosenberg was the winner for the evening, as well as $ 40.00 was raised for Resource Promotion. Don't forget, we will have another 50/50 Raffle at our February meeting with proceeds going to Resource Promotion.  You could be the winner.
