In the ever-changing world of business, minor changes of the service we provide can greatly increase or decrease the percentage of exposure in a liability claim. Liability is divided between the owner, architect, engineer, project manager, contractor and occupants. Each party requires different liability insurance. Which job functions are covered errors and omissions insurance? What exposures are present when working for a client that is design and build contractor? Mr. Cummings will discuss how to limit liability exposure and what types of liability protection are available. Liability that cannot be eliminated can be minimized if your insurance agent knows the extent of the exposure. He will provide a checklist to determine your exposure to liability claims. In today’s world, one uncovered claim may be your last. Join us to be sure of what to insure! Attention all students! We will be hosting a student night in your honor. We hope you can attend the 5:30pm Technical Session, which will consist of an overview of ASHRAE research. Our guest speaker is Professor Eckhard Groll who is the ASHRAE Faculty Advisor at Purdue University in West Lafayette. All are welcome; you don't need to be an ASHRAE member to attend. This night is for any student interested in the HVAC industry. You are welcome to stay for the dinner afterwards. The meal is always good and we have the price discounted for student guests. PRESIDENTS MESSAGE The October meeting was a great success. Mr. Don Colliver provided an excellent presentation on the new weather data contained in the 2001 Handbook. Additionally, Mr. Jim Wilson’s technical session on ASHRAE Standard 55 generated more questions than could be answered in the time permitted. For those who were unable to attend, I definitely recommend reading Mr. Colliver’s article in the March edition of the 1999 ASHRAE Journal and browsing the information presented on Technical Committee’s website (TC 4.2). However, if you were unable to attend the meeting you will have another opportunity in October.A national satellite presentation on Standard 90.1 – 1999 is scheduled for Tuesday, October 30, 2001. The intent of this broadcast is to provide engineers and architects with additional technical content regarding the standard. What . . . you have difficulty attending an evening meeting? Well the meeting will be during the lunch hour for your convenience. For additional information contact Clay Runshe or log onto our website http://www.indyashrae.org/ We would like to welcome five new members to the chapter: Michael R. Lavelle, Jim Lynch, Willard Sisson, Mark Roberts and Bill Stott. November’s meeting will build on the success of October’s meeting and will discuss an issue that impacts every phase of construction. Legal Liability is a topic on which we require continuous updates on the best practices and products available to protect ourselves and our firms. M. K. Stewartc/o Energy Systems Group5420 W.
