It cost $35.75 million to build. The IHS features a 4,500 square foot Exhibitions Gallery for changing exhibitions, and a Cole Porter Room featuring a programmable CD jukebox to listen to music from such Hoosier legends as Cole Porter, John Mellencamp, Wes Montgomery, Hoagy Carmichael, Michael Jackson, Noble Sissle and the Hampton Sisters. Also featured is a 300 seat acoustically balanced auditorium for performances and programs. The William Henry Smith Memorial Library has 30,000 square feet of research and storage space for the Society’s priceless collection of rare manuscripts, photographs, maps, books and other material on the history of Indiana and the old Northwest. The cafe at the Stardust Terrace where we will be having dinner has indoor and outdoor seating along the historic renovated Central Canal. The building was designed by CSO Architects Engineers & Interiors of Indianapolis, and Stubbins Associates Inc. of Cambridge, Mass., with construction management by Geupel DeMars Hagerman.Tech Session:The topic for this evening’s technical session is historical building systems design. Building structures such as the Indiana Historical Society house original documents and artifacts that require constant temperature and humidity control. Sam Miller, lead architect, and Greg Plantenga, lead engineer with CSO, will present an overview of the building and systems. CSO, who is a leading architectural and mechanical design firm for institutional buildings, planned and designed the Indiana Historical Society structure. In addition, a representative of the Historical Society will make a presentation on the archival process.Reservations: For reservations, call Debbie Jack at Honeywell (tel: 580-6166) by Friday, May 5, 2000. If you receive Debbie’s voice mail, please leave a message stating your name, company, the number of reservations required and your phone number. DON’T FORGET TO INCLUDE YOUR SPOUSE! PRESIDENT’S MESSAGEPlease be sure to call your reservation in early for the May meeting as we have a limited number of seats available. It is Spouse Night and it promises to be a very enjoyable evening as well as our final meeting of the year. We will hold our elections for next year’s officers at the May meeting. I am pleased that we have some very fine nominations. The nominations for 2000-2001 are Bill Mosbaugh and Frank St. John for Board of Governors; Bob Gehrlich will serve as President, Doug Fick, President-Elect, Clay Runshe, Vice-President and Chris Smith, Secretary. I want to thank Vern Ramsey and Clay Runshe of Ramsey, Inc. for sponsoring our April meeting. Dennis Stanke gave an informative presentation on ASHRAE 62-1999 and provided a glimpse into the future for this ventilation standard. The Board has voted to increase the yearly local chapter dues ten dollars from $25 to $35. We need to increase our dues as we are running a loss at each meeting we hold. The board analyzed what other region chapters are charging and the chapters, our size, are charging $35 to $40. We feel that it is important to keep the meal cost at the Marten House at $15 to encourage attendance. The additional funds will help us support Research and Promotion and our Scholarship Funds. I guess there are two people who read the President’s Message. Clay Runshe from Ramsey and Scott Brown from Micro-Metal called to receive the free meal. Clay was the first to call, so he ate for free at our last meeting.I would like to thank Debbie Jack of Honeywell for taking the reservations for our ASHRAE meetings for the last year and a half. As you who have talked with her know, Debbie is always very pleasant. Debbie will be attending the May meeting as our guest so please take the opportunity to introduce yourself to her. And finally, as is our annual custom, we shall be recognizing Past Presidents during our May 9 meeting. I hope to see you at this meeting.M. K. Stewart c/o Energy Systems Group5420 W.
