PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Thank you for all of your understanding in having to reschedule our March meeting. Our guest speaker was unable to get out of Washington D.C. to be at our meeting. I guess March did come in like a lion, so we should have an early start to the golfing season at the end of March.

Principals of our area Consulting Engineering firms will be receiving a notice for our "Featured Consultant" series in the next couple of weeks. Please look for it so your firm can be recognized within our organization. We are also soliciting input for programs for our 1999-2000 programs, so please circulate these around your office and fax them back to me. The better the input for our programs the better the programs will be.

I would like to sincerely thank Chuck Seaver for his contribution to the Central Indiana ASHRAE Chapter. Chuck will be resigning his position as Historian as he is moving to Ohio with his wife. Chuck assures us that he will still visit us and attend some meetings. We sure hope so. As Historian, Chuck has done a tremendous job, he helps us select the "Man of the Year" and co-ordinates recognition of Past Presidents, 50 year, Life and Fellow members. Chuck has written several histories of interesting or unusual HVAC &R system, including theaters having ammonia compressor cooling, and well water-cooling. One of the most outstanding contributions is to collect and archive our Chapter Archives at the Indiana State Library. This truly is a remarkable feat as it preserves our heritage as a professional organization. Chuck we would like to sincerely thank you for all of your contributions.

ASHRAE Establishes Learning InstituteCHICAGO - To further strengthen the Society's commitment to providing and facilitating life-long educational opportunities for students and professionals in the HVAC&R industry, ASHRAE established the ASHRAE Learning Institute at its 1999 Winter Meeting, the Society announced. "We envision that the ASHRAE Learning Institute will become a major center through which traditional and innovative educational programs will be provided to students of all ages to prepare them for careers in HVAC&R and to advance and recognize the proficiency of HVAC&R professionals," said ASHRAE President George A. Jackins, PE. "We also envision that the Institute will disseminate materials to increase public awareness of ASHRAE's contributions to the quality of life," he said.

Plans call for the ASHRAE Learning Institute to become fully functional by July 2000. The Institute will encompass the Society's current educational programs, including Professional Development Seminars, self-directed courses and short courses.

The Society also announced that Presidential Member Richard B. Hayter, Ph.D, PE, Fellow ASHRAE, was appointed dean of the Institute, serving a one-year term as an academic advisor. He is associate dean of Engineering for External Affairs at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He served as ASHRAE's president in 1995-96. He also has served on the Society's Board of Directors, has chaired numerous councils and committees, and is a recipient of ASHRAE's Distinguished Service Award. He presently serves on the ASHRAE Foundation Board of Trustees, the Nominating Committee, the Education Council and chairs the International Committee.
