PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
December was a very active month for CIC ASHRAE with two events: Student Bar Night and our program meeting sponsored by SMACNA.   The Student Bar Night was well attended by our Purdue Student Chapter and the discussion, beer, and music was excellent.
The SMACNA Program meeting again is one of our most successful meetings and thanks to SMACNA’s sponsorship and your donations we were able to raise $345 for ASHRAE research.   Our main speaker Robert Baker talked about the importance of maintaining equipment and convinced me that it is a good idea before staying in a hotel room to take apart the PTAC unit to see if it is being maintained.
Phil Gillespie with SMACNA also gave a short presentation on the latest work SMACNA is doing with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to analyze duct flow.  Be careful with that flex duct!
In January, we look forward to our 1st building tour of this program year and get a close up look at the ASHRAE technology award winner for 2009, IPS school #87 designed by Tom Durkin.   This promises to be an excellent program and learning opportunity.  I hope you can make it!

HISTORY OF THE CENTRAL INDIANA CHAPTER
The first year of the Central Indiana Chapter (CIC) of ASHRAE was of course unique.  The CIC was a coordinated effort of 2 previous technical societies.  Local chapters of ASHAE and ASRE coordinated to form the CIC.  (The local chapter of ASHAE was previously known as ASHVE).   The first year of CIC was organized under co-presidents John Thornburg and Joseph Teskoski.  Later in the first year, Mr. Teskoski moved from the area and William Freije replaced him.  The first year of the CIC was effectively organized by 3 co-presidents.
The Central Indiana Chapter has been presided over by 50 distinguished individuals since the original founding.
